Wotan was an ancient Germanic sky god.
Wotan was known as Woden or Wotan to the Saxons and later as Odin to the Norse people.
Wotan is often known as ’the raven god’ , as can be seen in the poem ‘Poetic Edda’
Huginn (from Old Norse ‘thought’) and Muninn (from Old Norse ‘memory’ or ‘mind’) are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world (Midgard) They bring information to Wotan, after he gave them the ability to speak.
Wodan is the god of war & god of victory in battle. (Victory was achieved in battle, when he pointed his spear in favour of one army over the other)
He was also the god of death, hanging & poetry.
In the design you can see that the raven Muninn sits on a poets quill.
The 2 ravens sit on a tetrahedron, associated with the element of fire. Fire can be linked back to death.
The ‘Ansuz’ rune (on the tetrahedron) is associated with communications & poetry. It is is the heathen or ‘old english’ rune for the word ‘God’
The sun wheel symbol above the head of Huginn is also known as ‘Wotan’s eye. It is represented by an equilateral solar cross inside a circle (my version also induces a moon cycle)
Wotan sacrificed one of his eyes in the well of the wise – no sacrifice is too great for wisdom.
