• I recently had the opportunity to do a quick test print on a heavier press recently. • There are so many variables in print making, it's an alchemical process! • Press pressure, wetness & variety of paper, ink variety, wiping technique... the list goes on.
Process;
1. Design
2. Draw the lines onto plate
3. Etch the lines in stages (timing each weight of line)
4. Add more drawing details
5. Etch the details in stages ( blocking out the areas you don’t want etched in colour pen)
6. Cut the plate out
7. File & finish the plate
8. Clean the plate
9. Prepare the ink, paper & etching press
10. Print!
Next Steps
• With a little extra pressure & a bit more polishing, it has stared to come up quite well. Not perfect but it is nearly there.
• Lesson learnt - Don’t etch the edge (cutting line) It has created a ‘ tooth' and it is now impossible to get the black ink out of the edge, despite how much I file the edges. I may try to trim them off with the saw.
Limited Edition Print
Once this little plate has been tidied up & re tested, I will launch a limited edition hand pulled print
